What is hip replacement?

As the name implies, it is a surgical procedure wherein the worn/diseased bone is removed and replaced by metal work. The bearing surfaces are either, metal on poly, ceramic on poly or ceramic on ceramic. Enquire with your surgeon as to which bearing surfaces is best suited for you.

What are the risks?

As with any major surgery, the general risks are Bleeding, infection, DVT (clots in the legs), PE (clots in the chest), nerve injury, dislocation, stiffness, fracture, leg length discrepancy, stroke, heart attack or very rarely sudden death. Your surgeon and anaesthetist shall review you prior to the surgery and shall advice you of your suitability
